French Caller Display doesn't work in UK
I bought a Siemens Gigaset 3015 DECT phone when I lived in
Switzerland and I now use it in the UK. The language is French, and so I presume it was built for the French market. I have subscribed to Caller ID from BT and I know it's enabled because I have a separate Caller Display device, which is working fine. However, i don't see any Caller ID on the Gigaset handset. Do I take it that the French (Swiss) system is incompatible with the UK? I am tempted to buy a new base station from Germany - but then the question would be: is the German Caller ID system compatible? Any views? One system is used by BT and the other, a derivative of the US Bell Core standard, is used by the cable operators, but they also use the BT system - it is entirely dependant upon their switch provider in each location, e.g. in Birmingham Virgin Media use both systems as they have both NT DMs 100 and Marconi System X switches. (I have a copy of the cable operators specification if you want it). However as you have a BT line you will need to purchase a BT compatable phone - Argos, Dixons, Currys, etc. It is unlikely that a German one would work. Peter |

I always assumed that Siemens did this as standard, but maybe not... |

The ETSI standard covers a few of the different methods used in the EU, including BT's. -- Andrew Gabriel [email address is not usable -- followup in the newsgroup] |
