He's no different from me - I would have posted a similar question if he
hadn't got in first. Oh, and he can spell too!

I tend to use Saynoto0870 to avoid having to dial any of these
numbers, besides from the 1st of January the law will change on 0870
numbers.

Not so:

"Ofcom recognises that the proposed effective date of BT’s OCCN of 4 May
2007 was stated to be 1 February 2008 on the basis that this was the
likely date that the changes to the regulatory regime applicable to
calls to 0870 numbers would come into effect. Ofcom notified CPs of a
delay to the implementation of those changes on 14 November 2007 with
the result that the changes would not have effect by 1 February 2008. In
light of this delay, BT will remain subject to the NTS Condition until
such date as Ofcom determines following 1 February 2008."

18185 is much cheaper than superline and offers the same type of
access, i.e. an 020 number.

So do I, but often it comes up with nil return, also sometimes the
alternatives it offers don't work. Let's take a for instance:

0870 010 2277 (Alliance & Leicester)
offers:
- 0151 4786150 - recorded message saying this number will "change
soon" and then the line goes dead.
- 0800 0565522 - taking the account enquiries option tells you to call
0870 010 2277, all other options pass you to sales who say the
same
- 0151 9288181 - gives a switchboard that will not put you through and
tells you to call 0870 010 2277

So you're stuffed. This is not a criticism directed at Saynoto0870,
but shows that, increasingly, the 0870-crowd are getting sneaky and
plugging the gaps.
