2 Line Dect system, queries...
Greetings to all, from a new reader of uk.telecom.
I've read a few posts over the last couple of days, to get in tune with the group, and its posters, and I now feel ready to ask my question... I currently have 2 phone lines (both from BT, both analogue, both with an ADSL service) into my house, one a home line, and one a business line. Currently I have 2 DECT systems, one Philips, and one BT so I know whether I'm answering a business call or a personal call. This works fairly well, but every 3-4 years I have to replace one or the other of the systems as the internal batteries start to fail, plus it's a pain having 2 handsets in every location (5 locations in total). What I'd like is a simple dect 2 line system, with the following features: I'd like the phone to ring with a different tone dependant on the incoming line, so I can distinguish between personal, and work calls. I'd like to be able to name the extension handsets with names (study, bedroom, kitchen etc.). I need to be able to route outgoing calls via the business line unless it's in use, where I want to be able to utilise the other line. Caller ID would be useful on the handset too, but I could live without it. Now, I've looked at the DECsys, and the Distybox, both of which look like good products to handle 2 lines, but even after downloading the respective manuals I'm unable to find out if they offer distinctive ring tones for separate lines, which is a *must* for me. I'd appreciate any answers, comments, or suggestions. Thanks, Box |

The DistyBox has a call pick-up facility which would let you answer a non-ringing personal call on a "business" handset - you'd then need a way to hear the personal line ringing, possibly with a tone caller(s) if there's no a "personal" handset in hearing distance. |

instead of having 2 lines ,why not have call sign on 1 line which gives you
another No. and is a diffrent ring so as you would know if buisness or personal. It will certainly tailor its ringing behaviour depending on the line, so if, for instance, a call arrives on the 'business' line it will ring in the office for a few seconds before the rest of the handsets join in; or just a subset will ring depending on which line the call came from. It can also be configured so that each handset can be associated with one of the lines for outgoing calls, so, again, the office can use the business line and the others the domestic one. This can be hard and fast or it can just be a preference, so the preferred line is used if possible. Finally, the DeskDECT is a superb piece of kit - a decent office desk speakerphone that doesn't need to be plugged in and can do everything the smaller DECTsys phones can do. Only caveat - my DECTsys phones are now many years old, and at least one had its display die years ago. Still works, though. Even the original batteries. |

What I'm trying to acheive is just one handset in each room, all of which will ring when a call comes in, but with a different ring so I know if I'm answering a business, or personal call. I looked at the manuals, and it appears that different rings can be set for internal or external calls, but as far as I can see not for different lines. Thanks for taking the time to look. Box |
