Cost of changing a BT telephone number?

Why do BT make searching their website for such an easy answer, so
difficult. Anyway, what I want to know is how much does it cost to
change a BT telephone number, and will it cause any issues in respect
of my ADSL contract with Sky Broadband - do I need to inform them, or
will BT do it for me?

If it's as a result of nuisance calls, then they should change the number
free. Not sure if it will affect broadband, probably it will as they tend
to tie these things in to the phone number.

If it's just because you want the number changed, then they will charge
you, but not sure how much.

Hi,

Is a bit hard to find on the BT website but the cost information you
are looking for is at:

I looks like it is free for residential lines and £30.50 ex vat
(£35.84 inc vat for business lines).

As for the BB AIUT it would cease if you change your number so you
would need to conact $ky.

You would expect that a renumber might cause problems with ADSL,
especially as the ISP's service is intrinsically linked to the number;
it seems, though, that it is actually linked to the line.

I have renumbered a few PSTN lines with broadband with no ill effect on
the ADSL - months & years have passed on a couple.

The ISPs always say a renumber causes an automatic cease order to be
raised. I have yet to see it happen.

The OP's mileage may vary, of course & I have not attempted a renumber
on a line with Sky's LLU product on it.....

It shouldn't do - the broadband is provided on a circuit, not on a
number. If BT process the number-change as a cease-and-reprovide,
however it may affect the broadband.

BT will not advise Sky that the number is changing as it is not relevant
to Skys service.
