Unhappy with new phone

Just taken delivery of a BT Converse 1300 I have used the mains adaptor
instead of batteries

I have noticed that if I unplug the adaptor for a while then when I
plug back in again I have lost all the settings inc my phone directory
I thought these were protected in case of power cuts etc No mention is
made of this in the instructions or if there is a backup battery Is
there one and if so where is it Is it and is it recharged from the
mains supply

I need to know if I should return it

Thanks

It clearly states that the phone can run from a power supply OR
batteries (not both). I have used other much cheaper phones without
batteries or a mains connection but which still do not lose their
settings Besides which there is a good likehood that over time the
batteries will run down and all it takes then is a power failure and
everything is lost

So I do not think it is obvious that batteries are required but if so
so be it

Thanks
