Downloading songs from online music sites

i want to download songs from online music sites (the ones which have got large database of songs but they only allow you to play them directly from their site using realOne or windows media plugin, but dont allow you to download them)
(not the interent radio sites)
i know one way is to record the song while its playing using recording softwares but can some one tell me of a hack/tip/trick/software that can somehow fetch the song from the servers of the site where it is actually kept?

Re: downloading songs from online music sites

Check the Temp / Temporary internet files folders in your user profile while the songs are being played. You should be able to find the files there either with direct file names ( like rm/Wma) or with a .tmp extension. Use the tool Unlocker to copy those files to your required folders.

Another trick you can try is just put the line out cord inside line In and record it directly.

Re: downloading songs from online music sites

@strider ... the site in question doesnt first download the songs to temp folder so tht they can be deleted after i quit the site, instead it buffers the file directly from their servers, so i cant follow ur advice

wich brings me to the next problem

@bakuryu ... i dont have a high speed internet connection, and since the site buffers the songs, therefore due to my slow net, i have to bear irritable pauses so tht the site's media player can contact the servers to retrieve the remaining song, therefore recording the songs with pauses in btween can be very annoying, the software i used to use for recording songs from such sites had the option of automatically deleting such pauses and breaks but quite a lot of times i had 1 or two lines and words of the song missed out due to this.

Re: Downloading songs from online music sites

Hi,

There are 2 ways to get what you want done. Both require a slight amount of configuration. But once done, you can download whatever you want.

1. Use Mozilla Firefox instead of IE. The reason? Firefox offers free addons that enable you to download music and other files, including embedded media like the videos on YouTube, etc.

2. This is in response to Bakuryu's comment about connecting the Line-In to the Output. No need to do that. Try this:
a) Open your PC's volume control (double click on the speaker on the lower right hand corner of your screen, below the time).
b) Click on Options --> Properties
c) Select "Recording"
d) Now tick the "Stereo Mix" or "Wave Out Mix".
Now you can use the standard Sound Recorder that comes with Windows to record ANY sound that's coming from your PC. Just play whatever you want from any site, while you record it in the Sound Recorder.

Re: Downloading songs from online music sites

You can use Google to search index pages for .mp3 files. If you have Firefox, this is made very easy:

Create a new bookmark. For the keyword, use something like 'music'. For location, use:
http://www.google.com/search?q=-inur...ogg)+%22%s%%22
(to see the full URL, just click the link)

Once you create the bookmark, you can type 'music <artist name>' (i.e. 'music beatles') in the URL bar and search index pages for .mp3 files. Make sure that the link is an actual .mp3 file, right click and save the link. Be sure to check and make sure it's saving as a .mp3 file; I've accidentally saved webpages before.
