Delete Locked files in Windows XP - Cannot delete file: Access is denied
Ever had such an annoying message given by Windows?
Ever tried to move copy or delete something in xp where you get a warning that it is in use by os or another program.... but it isn't... damn annoying... ![]() It has many other flavors: Quote:
Try unlocker, it puts a shell extension on right click that will unlock pretty much almost any file so that you can delete it. # Unlocker is the solution! 1. Simply right click the folder or file and select Unlocker ![]() 2. If the folder or file is locked, a window listing of lockers will appear ![]() 3. Simply click Unlock All and you are done! Here's the link Latest Version : http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/unlocker1.8.5.exe Last edited by Strider; 07-10-2006 at 08:27 PM.. |

Re: Delete Locked files in Windows XP - Cannot delete file: Access is denied
if a file is locked but you know it shouldn't be. for example, you were downloading a file and the browser crashed. now you cannot delete the file even after a restart? Chances are windows explorer has grabbed hold of the file and won't let go. You can identify that explorer is to blame for this using unlocker, but for some reason you still cannot resolve it with unlocker. you have to do this manually 1. Open a cmd prompt to that file location 2. open process explorer and kill the explorer process 3. now go back to the cmd prompt and del the file. you should get no error. 4. go back to the process mgr and restart the explorer using the file menu > run.
