How to make your Firefox 1.5 Extensions compatible for firefox 2

this will take you through a step by step process in how to make the 1.5 extensions for firefox work on Firefox2.

1. Open the location C:\Documents and Settings\"User"\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

2. then open up the profile you use (most likely the default profile)

3. open the Extensions folder and search for the extension's folder that you want to change

4. After you find it open it up and find the 'install.rdf', file and open it with an editing program (wordpad or notepad will work. I use jEdit )
(jedit homepage)

5. search through the document til you find 'em:maxVersion="1.5.0.*" '

6. simply change the number '1.5.0*' to '2.0.0* and save the file

7. restart firefox and it should now be compatible for Firefox 2

Good trick. But there are extensions which are not compatible with version two by design. In such cases forcing the install may crash the browser.

alternatively you can use the Nightly Tester Tools extension to make your extensions compatible.

Nice trcik, but as told by strider, I think it will not work with all extension
