Save Laptop Battery Life
Well, trust me, I had first hand experience with this thing...
So I decided to leave my laptop on all the time for quick access when I needed it [which was like every day] and one day I had to go to Mexico for vacation. I unplugged my laptop to take with me while it was still on. First, I got a message saying that Microsoft highly recommends getting a new battery and no more than 10 seconds after that, it shut off. The Cause: Believe it or not, laptops can over charge a battery and it will seriously make a difference. All of this happened to me within 5 days .The Fix: If you want to keep you laptop plugged in and on all of the time, then take the battery out. If you don't know how, you'll probably find instructions in the instruction manual or on the computers website. So, yes, this did happen to me, and then I did an experiment. I took the battery out of my other laptop and left it on for 20 days, put the battery in and it worked just fine. Good luck! ![]() Please Rep is you find this useful ![]() Last edited by 1mAn3rd; 01-06-2008 at 08:12 PM. |

Re: Save Laptop Battery Life
A wonderful tip, but hope I will never have to try this out.
![]() I used to keep my laptop on for very long hours. Should be careful from now on. Btw: Which laptop is yours? |

Re: Save Laptop Battery Life
Well, the laptop battery that died was a Dell Inspiron 1501 and the one that I tried the experiment with no battery was a Dell Inspiron E1505, so mainly just a Dell Inspiron. Thanks for the comment

Re: Save Laptop Battery Life
Dells are really heavy duty and are built to last for a long time, so it says something when I say the battery ran out

Re: Save Laptop Battery Life
I also have a Dell Inspiron and the battery used to last a couple of hours. Now, the second I unplug the laptop, off it goes. And this is bad only because the plug that goes from the wall to the laptop slips out of the laptop very easily and if I'm in the middle of something, I'll lose whatever I'm doing.
I'll try popping the battery out and see what happens. I've only had this thing for a couple years, so I was a little disappointed when the battery went kaput. Edit: Oh crap, I didn't realize this was an old topic. I apologize for bringing it back up to the top. |

No no, it's never bad to give good feedback to an old topic, no one will yell at you
well, you will have to contact Dell to get a new battery. And talk to dell about the charger slipping out of the plug, too. That's not supposed to happen ![]()
