Double quotes problem in Windows 7
There is a nasty bug in Windows 7 - when you press ' or " it's not shown until you press it again, and then you see both of them. If you press ' once and then press a, you'll get stroked a. May be for some people this is good, but for programmers like me it's really annoying. So here is how to fix this - just switch you keyboard layout form "United States - International" to "US" or vice versa (if you had installed Windows with US version by default).

Re: Double quotes problem in Windows 7
' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' '
" " " " " " " works fine on mine, and it's using default. Are you sure it's a windows problem?? Maybe it's your keyboard or the sofware you are typing in is autocorrecting. |

Re: Double quotes problem in Windows 7
No. it's not in the keyboard. Not all Windows 7 users experience this bug (thats why it's called a bug). Here is the article which helped me the first time I had this problem.

About you theory "Maybe it's your keyboard or the sofware you are typing in is autocorrecting", can you explain why with changing keyboard layout the bug is gone? If it's something from the things you've said, it'll be still there. |

Re: Double quotes problem in Windows 7
so the problem is not windows 7, but specifically, windows 7 AND visual studio 2008
- does the problem only happen during coding? |

Re: Double quotes problem in Windows 7
It's not "windows 7 AND visual studio 2008" because I don't have Visual Studio installed (I'm a WEB developer and use only Notepad++). I have this bug even on freshly installed Windows 7. For long time I thought it's a feature of Windows 7, because I had it even the first time I installed it. One day I decided to search for an option to disable it and I found it's not a feature, but bug.

Re: Double quotes problem in Windows 7
@metal03326: Are you able to replicate it? I tested it in in Windows 7 Ultimate and professional with no success. May be installing Visual Studio 2008 causes this.

Re: Double quotes problem in Windows 7
I don't need to replicate it, since I have it from the beginning. I never installed VS and I don't think I'll ever do. As I said before, it's a bug, and as such you may not have it. It's like the Default Gateway unavailable bug in 7 (have you experienced it?), or Language Bar missing in multiple Windows versions (experienced that one?) - it's known, but you can never have experienced it. Haven't experienced it != not existing.
