Yes - it is not just slow, its like watching treacle set. > some solution? Err no - I swapped the ATI Radeon 9600 out and put an Nvidia 6200 in. That's worse. Nothing I did would make it work at all. Only in VESA mode did I actually get to log in. The invidious drivers insist on pushing out a video signal that is way beyond my monitors. I tried clean installs for both the nvidia and the Radeon. Eventually I went back to an older Radeon 9550. That works ... (ish). It works as in I can log in and I can have my screen set at 1280x1064. But I cant get my second monitor working. That just isnt seen at all in Administrations -> Screens and Graphics. I have wasted a weekend just trying to get back in to my system after "upgrading to Gutsy. If I cant get anything working I will start again with Mandriva 10 (oh, no, thats back to KDE). Or maybe put a Sapphire 9880 and see if a more modern card will work. > > Thk u! > > Andrea |

Surprised a 9600 didn't work, I have more luck with them than X800s. -- If you can do ballet then you can do anything except reach high things because you're dinky. Kiera Best - Aged 6. |

Re: ubuntu 7.10 ati problem
Problem:
I had problem with ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro: After installation of drivers from ATI, 3D was not working, graphics was wery slow (e.g. showing of window content when moving), no desktop efect can be enabled. Solution: I installed and run Envy. It solved the problem. Now 3D works excelent. Before Envy, atigetsysteminfo.sh said: (II) fglrx(0): detected X.org 7.1.0.0 (EE) fglrx(0): atiddxDriScreenInit failed, GPS not been initialized. (WW) fglrx(0): *********************************************** (WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed! * (WW) fglrx(0): * (maybe driver kernel module missing or bad) * (WW) fglrx(0): * 2D acceleraton available (MMIO) * (WW) fglrx(0): * no 3D acceleration available * (WW) fglrx(0): ********************************************* * After: (II) fglrx(0): detected X.org 7.1.0.0 (II) Loading extension ATIFGLRXDRI (II) fglrx(0): doing DRIScreenInit |
