My new, expensive 4 GB USB stick (can't find a brand name right now, it could be a Dane-Elec 4GB) didn't; I needed to remove it's *exclusion* in the BIOS. BTW: with the USB key plugged in, lsusb shows "ID 0930:6545 Toshiba Corp. Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000" as the only device, so that's probably my USB stick. de Kameel ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ lsusb Bus 005 Device 002: ID 0930:6545 Toshiba Corp. Unfortunately my problem is not BIOS specific. I tried to make the same persistent install on that stick using 3 different computers (2 laptops and one desktop), and I always end up with the same problem : partition mounting doesn't work on the second boot from the USB stick, while all partitions seem normal when I boot from CD, and plug it the "faulty" stick. I noticed when booting from the stick that after unionfs and squashfs are loaded, I get a message about the ext2 file system on partition 1. I should run some file system checker... I tried it but it crashed telling me the fs was not supported. Heck, when booting from CD all the partitions on the USB stick are accessible and work fine ![]() I wonder if putting a different bootloader on the MBR would make a difference. Suggestions ? Re: gutsy persistent on USB "key"
hi, Lorenzo
Have you solved your problem? I have met the same problem as you. My USB stick is 4GB Kingston DataTraveler. I follow the steps of web: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2007/09...ibbon-install/ to install gutsy gibbon on my USB stick and try many times. (1). every first time after installing, I boot from persistent mode, everything works well, even I did nothing in x-window, and then reboot to persistent mode again, It hangs in the process of booting. (2). boot from liveCD mode, it works well. (3). in liveCD mode, delete all files in partition labled "casper-rw", and reboot to persistent mode, and it back to question (1): it works well and hangs when reboot. can anybody can help me? cheason >>>>>>> Glad you got it working.
