HP Printers in Linux
I'm getting a HP C7280 all-in-one as HP seem to have the best Linux
drivers. Particularly I am curious how much difficulty I will have interfacing with XSane (by the printers wireless / Ethernet connection) and if XSane can output / convert to PDF as the printer will not scan to PDF. |

While I can't speak for XSane specifically, don't even own a scanner, I can say that so far I've never had problems printing in any application to a PDF file. -- Stephan 2003 Yamaha R6 君のこと思い出す日なんてないのは 君のこと忘れたときがないから |

So there must be some application or some way to write a scrip to either manually or automatically take incoming JPEGs and turn them in to PDFs. Does not sound like a show stopper any way. |

I'm nowehre near a scanner right now, but I'm pretty certain that Xsane will output postscript if it won't do pdf directly. In which case, ps2pdf is your friend. |

IMHO - it's a lot easier to work a scanner and a printer rather than an all-in-one. BTW - Epson also has excellent support - see avasys.jp/english. |

If I'm not mistaken, XSANE is a SCANNER package. I run my Lexmark Z35 printer with CUPS, and my HP ScanJet 2300c flatbed scanner with XSANE, and have no problems printing directly from scan, or saving the document and printing later. Cheers; Ed |

CUPS will print to a PDF. What's the issue? Cheers; Ed |

I use an HP PSC1610, and I found it to be wonderfully easy to install (plug in the USB cable). To scan, I open the flatbed, place the document on it, open Xsane, and it works. If I plug in a memory card, they mount automagically to my desktop. Can't see how anything could be easier, and this certainly takes less desk space... -- Joe - Registered Linux User #449481 joe at hits - buffalo dot com "Hate is baggage, life is too short to go around pissed off all the time..." - Danny, American History X |

HP have Linux drivers for almost all their products on their site. The HP Linux drivers work perfectly, and XSane has no problems with the scanner functions. C. |

I;ve got an HP F380 "all in one". Scanner and printer work a treat. Also, HPLip is superb. A *quick* install and all functions of the printer are accesible. It's a far cry from the CD Install on windows which takes around 20 minutes to complete. -- Moog "Some mornings it just doesn't seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps." |
