The version of yahoo messenger available for ubuntu is very old and
should not be used. Try one of the other compatible programs such as
pidgen or kopete.

Thanks for responding: I do use pidgin, and have tried Kopete as
well but YM provides some functions which nothing else does, like
audible notification of events in my Yahoo calendar. I use this a lot
as the "Ram" between my ears doesn't always work so well...
