Motorola w755 - casual review

Just got a Moto w755 and am well pleased. This phone is very similar to the
V3m, but improved in just about every way, e.g. nicer looking menus/themes,
more responsive buttons, touch buttons on the face to toggle Bluetooth and
vibrate, and better Bluetooth reception with my H700 headset. It uses the
same USB connector for charging and PC connection as the V3m, so
chargers/cables are compatible. It is also similar enough in size that my
V3m leather case works. Additionally there is a 2.5mm headphone jack so the
phone can be charged while using a wired headset. The phone is supported by
the latest version of Motorola Phone Tools (v5) so I was able to easily
transfer my contact list and calendar from the V3m. This phone is free when
ordered on the web with a 2 year contract renewal combined with the "new
every two" discount (well, you do have to pay sales tax). Great!

I don't know about most of this but the battery is larger than the V3m
so I'm sure the battery life is longer, here's what I found:

V755:
Usage Time: Up to 220 Minutes OR Standby Time: Up to 390 Hours

Compare that with the V3m:
Usage Time: Up to 200 minutes OR Standby Time: Up to 325 Hours.

And the E815:
Usage Time: Up to 280 minutes OR Standby Time: Up to 300 Hours.

Standby time on the E815 may be an error, mine seems to be longer than
my V3m?

and signal reception are as good as the V3m and actually much better when
using my BT headset - I could never get reliable BT reception with the V3m.

Other positives:

You can change the wallpaper on the inside and outside screens
independently. The digital clock on the outside screen has a larger font
and is more readable then the V3m, especially if your don't use a wallpaper.

Negatives:

Few useful ringers. I don't use music ringers and that leaves just
Provincial and Standard. Wallpapers are also in short supply. I was able
to hack the V3m with a kit from Cellcables.com to enable ringer and
wallpaper customization, but the w755 is not support yet.

Not really, there are posted specs on Verizon's website and they can be
used as a guideline for relative performance. As I posted before,
battery life should be better than the V9m and worse than the E815
based on Motorola's figures.

I very eagerly awaited the release of the 755 last month.

When I finally got my hands on one at the store I was kind of disappointed.
I find the chromed-plastic look of the frame looks cheesy to me, and the
display is quite a bit smaller than my Razr.

I do concur with the look of the display and the responsiveness of the
software. I'm just sad they wouldn't spend the buck extra per phone to make
it look solid and "snazzy". It looked like a winner from a distance, now I'm
not so sure.

I think the 755 is a good replacement for the v325, but a downgrade from the
v3m. I'm holding onto the Razr a little while longer to see what else comes
out.

You're correct that the w755 main display is smaller. That's mainly due to
the fact that the phone is more narrow then the V3m. I hadn't noticed it
though because the text and images are so clear. I do notice that I have
gotten used the size and heft of the V3m and the w755 feels small in my
hand. I expect I'll get used to that and forget about it, but we'll see.
There are so many great improvements in the w755 that I wouldn't want to go
back to my V3m at this point. The ability to turn on/off Bluetooth and
toggle vibrate mode from the touch buttons on the front is just "killer"
(does anyone say killer anymore?)
