7068 Win 7 upgrade to latest RC version possible?

Hey guys, I've been using Win 7 7068 x64 for couple months now as my mains on my system and its been working flawlessly. Having just checked what the latest was on torrents, build 7600 is the latest. Is it possible to upgrade to this version if I download it. I don't want to reformat and install as my current one has files and games and programs installed, but just wanting to upgrade, is it possible?

Also, if so, when I obtain the Final RTM release will I be able to upgrade my RC versions to the final release?

Thanks

Officially no, there is no Microsoft supported upgrade path from any of Beta releases to RC/RTM/Final builds.

But you can off course go for the cversion.ini hack:

  1. Download the ISO as you did previously and burn the ISO to a DVD
  2. Copy the whole image to a storage location you wish to run the upgrade from (a bootable flash drive or a directory on any partition on the machine running the pre-release build)
  3. Browse to the sources directory
  4. Open the file cversion.ini in a text editor like Notepad
  5. Modify the MinClient build number to a value lower than the down-level build. For example, change 7100 to 7000
  6. Save the file in place with the same name
  7. Run setup like you would normally from this modified copy of the image and the version check will be bypassed

This change from 7100 to 7000 will enable the RC/RTM/Final setup to perform the upgrade on all the Windows 7 Beta builds.

Arghh Thanks Strider.

I don't have the BETA version of Windows 7

My one is build RC1 7068. So the mentioned hack below on your post still work for this build I have. Meaning I just downgrade from 7068 to 7000 for the file?

Did you try upgrading it with the RTM? If the RTM upgrade installer won't support a Beta/RC install it should report it and fail gracefully. So you may test it safely.

In any case you can force the RTM/Final installer to upgrade all the builds from 7000 by editing the cversion.ini file.
