Computer has started lagging/freezing

Hi,

Just moved my computer back home for winter break, everything was working fine up at school but last night a game that I play (Runescape) started frame lagging (best way I can describe it) but it caused my entire computer to lag too (cursor twitches/frame lags, iTunes skips constantly) which is something I've never encountered. I've looked online but haven't really been able to find anything. Could it be a hardware problem, maybe something was damaged during the move? It feels as though I don't have enough RAM or something, but looking at the task manager I'm not even using all the available RAM.

Anyways, systems specs are:

Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
Core-i5 750 @ 2.67 GHz
4GB DDR3 Ram
ATi HD5770

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Re: Computer has started lagging/freezing

I would say the problem is the fact you are playing Runescape but the fact you moved means that you could have damaged your computer, or have gotten a virus. The specs of your computer means that, even with ITunes and Runescape running, that it shouldn't lag out. Is this a recurring problem? And has it lagged out doing other things?

Do those problems happen when you're not playing Runescape?

Re: Computer has started lagging/freezing

Could lag in my internet connection slow my actual computer down? Because I can play Fallout 3 with iTunes and there's no problems... Runescape is the only time I experience the lag, and it's not consistent, not sure why but later in the night it doesn't seem to happen as much or even at all.

Re: Computer has started lagging/freezing

I am gonna make a wild guess that is is your ISP not providing enough speed.
Run tracert (from a dos window) to any popular site, yahoo, google, etc. and see what the ms time is for each hop. Do this when the problem is occuring most frequently and when the problem doesn't seem to occur.

I am going to assume you are on a high speed modem, rather then a conventional dial up modem.

Re: Computer has started lagging/freezing

Yup, that's the most probable thing, as runescape is an online virtual world, there are multiple players from all over the world. Infact it's a bit like world of warcraft.
