Fresh install of Windows 7 Home is super slow

Hi everyone

I wanted to give my gf my 2 years old HP ProBook 6550b. So I did a clean install of Win 7 Home edition on formatted drive. The problem is, after the reinstall the Windows is super slow.

Booting the system is faster but any operation inside the Windows take much longer than usuall. For example opening start menu takes even 60 sec. At this point I don't even know if it's software or hardware issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S:
I've tried running full antivirus and malware scan.
Another thing I noticed was that 45% of RAM is being used at all times, most of it by svchvost process, but following this trail led to nothing.

Cheers

Yes it is, but it is probably different version than it was there originally when I got it brand new.

I must I haven't a clue what could cause this. The one thing that in my mind is guaranteed to make a computer run faster is a clean install. So nothing to do but gather info.

What are it's specs? RAM/CPU/GPU/HDD etc

When was the last time you opened it up and cleaned out all the dust that will have accumulated? (I clean mine out bi-annually)

Also as to AV and malware scans-IMO that should include:
-Full scan with your current AV (I recommend anything well-known that isn't McAfee or Symantec/Norton) after fully updating the program and it's definitions
-Full scan with MBAM after fully updating the program and it's definitions
-Download and run the latest version or MSW MSRT
