12 new features we will see in Windows 8.1

Beside the re-introduced start button, Windows 8.1 will come with a lot more goodies. I've found an article this morning and I though I should share it with you guys. Here's a link to it: Windows 8.1 detailed: 12 key changes coming in the Windows 8 update | News | TechRadar

What do you think? Will it be way better than Windows 8?

This is a good update...
I like the return of start button and the direct saving on skydrive.
Thanks for the link.

Re: 12 new features we will see in Windows 8.1

It looks like Microsoft are finally listening to what people want and have returned a lot of features which'll work better with a mouse and keyboard rather than a touch screen. I see the start menu will be returning but will not be a full startbar like previous versions of Windows.

Re: 12 new features we will see in Windows 8.1

You notice, I hope, that 75% of these "improvements" are pure fluff. Make it look good and don't mess with the actual problems (our programmers might get their feelings hurt!). I'm interested to see what they actually ship, not these preview puff pieces. What are these people thinking? They did the same thing in Windows 9x and 2000, then in Vista. It took going to XP then Windows 7 to get it right. Now they're messing it up...again. PHAH!!

What they're forgetting is that, despite recent tablet and small laptop sales, the desktop and large laptop ain't going away, maybe ever. We still need the real estate and horsepower for a bunch of stuff.

XP and I suspect Win 7 has demonstrated that a good, well designed product will sell and be used forever. It's only by M$ refusing to support XP beyond 2014 that it's sales and use are slowing down. This is a glaring example of obsolescence economics at work. They gotta keep the "New - Improved" stuff coming to keep up their revenues (sounds like the laundry soap market, doesn't it?). Sad state of affairs.

Besides, upgrading is EXPENSIVE, and few of us can afford it in less than 5 years or so. New OSs have historically mandated new hardware, so you're looking at maybe $800 to $1,000US for an upgrade. We don't often have that.

TBF one or two of the improvements are things that royally p***ed me off when I installed it, like the Search thing and it being nigh on useless with a mouse and keyboard. I am rather dubious about "no need for desktop Control Panel" though; I like the windowed control panel.

Notice that, after all the flack they're getting over Win8 and Xbox, Micro$oft is "reorganizing".

More Details Emerge in Coming Massive Reorg at Microsoft

Wonder who's gonna get canned? As with most things, this will get interesting. Popcorn time!

R-click the Start/window button. Control panel is there.
