Windows Live Search usage drops 8% this year

Chris over at LiveSide is talking about a recent report released by Nielsen NetRatings showing MSN/Windows Live Search usage has dropped 8% over the last year.

Brandon LeBlanc of Mstechtoday posted an analysis on this report. this.

You know what really sucks about this report? It doesn’t reflect the actual service one bit. Windows Live Search has improved dramatically over this past year. For me, it has gone from a search engine that was barely usable to a search engine I use almost everyday. Compared to Google or Yahoo, the results I’m getting in Windows Live Search are pretty good.
I think blame for the 8% drop falls completely on the marketing folks behind Windows Live. Not only are they doing a crappy job marketing Windows Live - they’ve not yet come out and explained Windows Live as a brand. The transition from MSN to Windows Live was just crap and because of that transition - they are getting 8% drops in use of their services like Windows Live Search. It seems like the marketing folks under Windows Live have relied on community members to explain Windows Live for them. Well, I think its time for them to step up. No more of this “waiting for more services to leave beta” bullsh*t. You’ve got plenty of services out of beta - its time to explain Windows Live now if you don’t want to see any more percentage drops in your services.
But with very accurate search results and an elegant design live should pass the test. The AJAX powered search page is pretty attractive for me. But users may not think so. It's proved that most of the internet users still stick with the dump looking & simple sites.

That's true. Simplicity is their power.

Another difference I feel is msn's search results are for those who seek information. But google gives product oriented results.

Indeed true....
If you spend bit time with google & msn you will find that Google cranks up all new regarding the topic not only product oriented but also other stuff...but a note, priority is given to product first....Whereas in msn you will get less results but, of those one will be satisfactory....

Anyways i too use google...cuz msn is lot slower
