What are your system specs ?
XP SP2 is still a better choice if you mostly use Windows for gaming. And the editions of XP you are talking about are pirated onces, and we do NOT discuss such stuffs in this forums.

Vista will run fine, you can go for Vista, or opt for dual boot, compare performance in XP and Vista and then decide which OS to keep and which to get rid off.

Re: Windows XP SP2 or Vista - Which one is better for Gaming ????

Good idea bakuryu, but I would ask you first: Are you looking for games with extreme high quality graphics, or do you want the most speed out of your games? For extreme quality graphics, go with vista. For the most speed, go with win xp. The reasons:

XP For speed because Vista hogs up RAM...
Vista for extreme quality because instead of trying to improve their OS, when making Vista, microsoft aimed towards visual enhancement, for example: DirectX 10 is a lot better while running on Vista. I play Crysis and I can get max 50FPS on vista but I can use DirectX 10 with vista, which I can't with XP. On XP, max I get is 90FPS so the game doesn't lag, but then again, I can only go to max visual settings, and with Vista, you can go to Extra. GL

P.S. I noticed that you said you only had 2gb of RAM; go with XP. Vista hogs up too much RAM if you're gonna be a gamer.

Vista does NOT hog memory. The kernel is designed to take up more memory when the system is idle, and release memory only when required by other processes. Dx10 still has not much influenced. Almost all games still perform better on XP, now that might be due to better NVidia and ATi drivers for XP than Vista.

Theres no P4 8400 its Core 2 Duo .. Also forget about gaming since 8400 is a Media Center focused card not for Gaming... You will get scores like one with onboard vga

Then I don't get it. If it only supposed to let you use memory when you need it, then I guess it thinks that no one ever need it, because it is always hogging memory for me and everyone that I know that uses vista...

Re: Windows XP SP2 or Vista - Which one is better for Gaming ????

Here is my theory on Gaming .. ]

PC = Work + Study +++ FOSS
FOr Gamin get a Console.. Wii or Xbox 360 or PS3. Computer is definitely not the best platform for gaming.. I will never play a game without its bells and rigs on The pleasure comes with full eyecandy .. Also the games that you see today are built nearly on every platform so Computer games are not that Comp. exclusive .. So its better switching to Console rater burning money on Computer hardware
