Re: Windows Media Player on Super Fritz
If WMP 11 is on the fritz due to issues when OS system installed, should, instead of doing the prescribed above, I just wipe / reinstall Vista Ultimate 64 bit, and or, just upgrade to Windows 7 beta?

Re: Windows Media Player on Super Fritz
bakuryu,
Information on what I have done thus far to further my attempt to control crazy WMP 11. I have ventured to the "the how to geek" website and found a way to gain ownership to files. Using a zipped registry hack to all "take ownership" upon right click. Zipped downloaded file contained both install of registry hack to allow right click measure "take ownership," along with uninstall file to remove registry hack. Using that newly gained control, only then, was I able to modify the wmplayer file @ computer/c:/programfiles(x86)/windowsmediaplayer I have modified that file so it now read wmplayer.bak (in order to stop for working -but no short / long term results yet) Is this the last step, if it doesn't work, to wiping system / reinstalling Vista Ult. 64 bit? Do I have to go 'other' places on my computer to prevent WMP 11 from executing? ~Subzero |

Re: Windows Media Player on Super Fritz
bakuryu,
No pop ups of WMP 11 yet... Going on 12+ hours since I made the change, but I have only used my PC for about 3 of those 12 hours, so we'll see. I'll definitely try to track down what in the heck application is trying to run WMP, especially if it starts up now! Ha & Geez to this problemo. In several weeks or so I'm getting an external hard drive, probably about 1 TB or so. At that point I will be backing things up and proceeding to Windows 7 RC. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../download.aspx - Thanks again for all the help, it is nice to talk to other techies that actually don't give run arounds. Directness & politeness / decorum goes a long way to teaming up to solve problems. ~ Subzero_83 |

Re: Windows Media Player on Super Fritz
Problem,
I have had a reoccurring issue with WMP 11 in Windows Vista 64 bit version. It seems to want to either startup up randomly @ startup, not always at startup, or randomly while computer is running, with or without another program, like itunes, running a music file. Problem might go away for a week or two, even a month, then rear its ugly head. I thought it was associated to when I had to update the computer (Windows Vista updates / services packs, etc) but it doesn't always come up as a problem while, or immediately after, an update. Somewhere in my system WMP 11 is getting cued up, and incessantly popping up, even after I close it down. This in turn certainly causes system instability. The WMP 11 window wants to have priority so even when it has popped up, and I choose not to close, and continue using another program, or browsing online, I can type but a letter or two before cursor on primary screen stops blinking, because WMP 11 wants to have priority. Even after I close it 10-100, or more, times, and it doesn't pop back up, system remains unstable in the aforementioned manner. I have seemingly done all the manual adjustments that I can. They would be removing defaults, going through "autoplay" setup, removing WMP 11 from automatically starting up with startup, yet problem persists. Dumbfounded and confused is where I am now. ~Subzero_83 |

Re: Windows Media Player on Super Fritz
It's a strange problems indeed. Do you have an antivirus installed in your computer. If not install one immediately and keep it upto date.
Now like bakuryu, suggested what about renaming the wmplayer to something like wmplayer.exe.bak? |

Re: Windows Media Player on Super Fritz
Strider (thanks for the join in on the conversation),
Yes I have anti virus installed, updated, and running like clockwork. AVG would be the program. Upon the request by Bakuryu I did rename the file, that was of course several months ago, when I thought, incorrectly, that I had the whole problem fixed. I've done all the listed above, remove WMP 11 from network sharing, from startup, change file name, so forth... Sigh. When the problem pops up it is so irritating, like a little obnoxious kid incessantly tapping ones shoulder, and not stopping. Some where a program is using it, because when it does auto pop up, for no reason, when I go to close it, its able to close (but then almost like if it is on a loop, or looping) it pops right back up again. ~ Subzero_83 |
