C:WINDOWS/system32/cmd.exe error

Upon booting up a user's XP computer, a DOS box comes with C:WINDOWS/system32/cmd.exe and a message appears several times saying error:access is denied then it goes away. Nothing seems to be affected by this and when I log into the computer with another user it does not do it. This led me to believe it was malware but I ran some spyware and virus scans and come up with nothing. Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Re: C:WINDOWS/system32/cmd.exe error

That occurs when a batch file is started on a locked file. Look in Startup and remove anything with a '.bat' extension. Also, edit AUTOEXEC.BAT to see if it's doing something it shouldn't (it's normally empty).

Re: C:WINDOWS/system32/cmd.exe error

There could be a corrupted start up file under your name. Does it happen on every boot up? Did you recently download a program that could have poosibly caused this?

Have you tried other Malware and Anti-virus programs? Have you tried booting up in Safe Mode?

Sorry for so many questions, just trying to get more details.

Re: C:WINDOWS/system32/cmd.exe error

Yea I have tried all of those things. It has stumped me :/ It doesnt actually prevent anything from running. The computer runs normal other than that DOS popup. I will keep tinkering with it and let you all know if I figure it out.

Re: C:WINDOWS/system32/cmd.exe error

Try booting in Safe Mode With Networking update and run scan with Malwarebytes, and current anti virus program. Reboot see if that helps.

If not then you definitely have a AUTOEXE.bat file somewhere or an AUTORUN.ini messing things up. If so that would take some searching and tweaking of Windows to disable autorun.ini from running through Windows.
