Default DTM of vista/windows7 driver fails on windows7 client(WLK 1.4)

Hello,

I had done DTM of my USB drivers(vista,windows7) on windows7 client.

First i got the error on Strong name verification failure. I have resolved
it , by using Microsoft recommendation(adding reg key).

But now am getting a new error in the test 'Device Install Check for other
Device Stability’ . In this test , the task Device scan failed. In Device
scan, there are 150 subtasks in which one task failed. The failed task
context is given below.

Context Index: 680584470

Why the Ms serial network driver had such a problem?
Is it a known issue?
How can i resolve the issue, so that our customers can sign the driver at
microsoft.

Hope your reply
Thanks in advance

Default RE: DTM of vista/windows7 driver fails on windows7 client(WLK 1.4)

We are trying to Winqual three drivers, all three are failing with the
'StrongName' problem so popular a few months ago. We are running the latest
WLK 1.4, with the latest filters. We have tried the 'reg add strong name'
trick that got us past this problem 3 months ago, but the trick isn't working
for us now.

Anyone hitting this problem with current WLK?

Our drivers are unclassified drivers. All software drivers, no hardware.

The error we see from DeviceScan.wtl is this;
Could not load file or assembly 'WDTF.Interop, Version=6.1.0.0,
Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies.
Strong name validation failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8013141A)

I don't know if the PublicKeyToken is the exact same as the registry key
added by the 'trick', but it isn't exactly the same, this one doesn't have
the '* ,' in front of it. Done know if that matters or not, I did try
changing the registry to be exactly the same as above, and that didn't fix
the problem.

Thanks in advance.

Default RE: DTM of vista/windows7 driver fails on windows7 client(WLK 1.4)

hello,

This is a known microsoft issue and is the problem with WLK version 1.4.
Microsoft has provided the patch for the WLK1.4, QFE.... and is available in
Microsoft connect web site, connect .microsoft.com, WLK.

Install the patch in the DTM server and do the test again

Thank you for the response, I will check and see if we have the patch
applied. I thought we did, but who knows.

We did find the solution to the problem. A number of the forums that have
the solution to the problem (shown below) have a space between the * and the
comma, taking the space out fixes the problem.

PROBLEM STEPS:
The following steps should resolve this issue:
>
> 1. Open cmd line with elevated permission
> 2. Run 'reg add
> "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\StrongName\Verificati on\* ,31bf3856ad364e35"'
> 3. Run the test as usual
> 4. Once finished running the test, run 'reg delete
> "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\StrongName" /f'

FIXED STEPS
The following steps should resolve this issue:
>
> 1. Open cmd line with elevated permission
> 2. Run 'reg add
> "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\StrongName\Verification\* ,31bf3856ad364e35"'
> 3. Run the test as usual

> "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\StrongName" /f'

Hope this helps anyone else out there running into this problem.
