Restart manager causing unnecessary restart messages
When I run my installation on Vista or Server 2008, I have noticed that on
occasion I get a warning that "critical" services are holding files open, and a reboot will be necessary. This is untrue! In fact, if I say "OK" and let it go, it completes without requesting a reboot. I'd like to address this. Is there any way to determine what file is being held open? Here is an excerpt from the install log: MSI (s) (64:2C) [12:00:41:737]: RESTART MANAGER: Did detect that a critical application holds file[s] in use, so a reboot will be necessary. MSI (s) (64:2C) [12:00:41:737]: Note: 1: 1610 The setup must update files or services that cannot be updated while the system is running. If you choose to continue, a reboot will be required to complete the setup. MSI (s) (64:40) [12:00:46:097]: I/O on thread 4376 could not be cancelled. Error: 1168 MSI (s) (64:40) [12:00:46:097]: I/O on thread 3220 could not be cancelled. Error: 1168 MSI (s) (64:40) [12:00:46:097]: I/O on thread 4544 could not be cancelled.
