Pausing crashes WMP-11

I am playing a video from the web (whose URL ends in .WMV). When I pause the
movie, I get the error message "Windows Media Player encountered a problem
while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help." I have
to start the movie from the beginning, and set the timer slide to the
position of the crash (wherein, incidentally, it takes minutes for WMP to
start playing there—another problem).

Can anyone help me solve the problem, so that pausing the movie will not
crash the playing session?
