I listen to several podcasts and a video podcast every week that are
compatible with Windows Media Player.

I have encountered a few video podcasts that use a proprietary format
that I can only view with Apple's QuickTime Player. I suspect Apple
won't license their decoder for use in other players because QuickTime
use has functions that contribute to users visiting Apple's for profit
I-Tunes site.

Perhaps you should ask the podcast publisher when THEY will produce
their podcast in a WMP compatible format.

I would also like to know when support for podcast subscriptions will come
around.

If the previous poster is suggesting that WMP can subscribe to podcasts, I'd
like to know how he/she does it.

With my RSS reader I've been subscribing to RSS feeds operated by the
podcast authors. For some of those RSS articles clicking a link loads
the podcast into Mediaplayer and plays it. Some make a dialog pop up
thet give me the choice of loading and playing the podcast in
Mediaplayer automatically as soon as the RSS feed is displayed or
downloading the file for play in my MP3 player (with typical Windows
"Save As..." dialog).

Don't forget that the featured media sources in Mediaplayer are probably
paying Microsoft (possibly through their MSN/Windows Live division) for
bringing paying customers their way or displaying their advertising.
Some other media players do much the same thing for a different set of
media suppliers.
