AVI files Cause WMP to stop working

I'm running Vista Business SP1 and the latest WMP. My video's are very short
and use the Microsoft Video 1 CODEC and every time I get the error.

"Windows Meda Player has stopped working" "A problem cused the program to
stop working correctly."

These same AVI files will play on my windows XP computer and my laptop which
is running Vista home premium. I don't have any plugin's.

I can also play AVI files that use the Microsoft DV CODEC that is video from
my digital camera.

I thought that maybe I could remove and reintall WMP but I don't find the
Vista download version. Only the XP version.

Seems to me my Microsoft video 1 CODEC is corrupted. How can I obtain the
CODEC and reinstall it? I tried checking for updates in WMP. It says I'm all
up to date.
