How to make a big Pop-Up window in Windows Media Player

If you try to play a protected file in Windows Media Player the player opens
a pop-up window and connects to the license acquisition url.
This is a page in our webshop where the person who requests the license can
buy the license.

The problem is, that the pop-up window opened by Windows Media Player is a
small window - too small for a normal webpage.
How can I arrange that this pop-up window has the full size of the screen?

You can specify the height/width of the window by putting the parameters
X=1000&Y=1000 in the querystring of the license url. That works for users of
Windows Media Player 10 or higher.

The correct parameters in the license url are DlgX and DlgY.

However, there is one significant issue with using these parameters to
make a bigger pop-up:

Automatic license acquisition, by means of the "automatically acquire
licenses for protected content" setting in WMP, stops working
entirely!

We went through severe amounts of debugging before finally nailing the
problem with automatic license acquisition down to these parameters,
and had to revert back to normal license acquisition pop-up window
size.

Just a heads-up if you are planning on using these parameters.

Re: How to make a big Pop-Up window in Windows Media Player

Hi,

I have drm encrypted file.wmv and in the header of it is address of
some webpage with parameters. This webpage contacts some servlet
issuing license (byte array) in its doGet method and the webpage saves
it in its http session. It is then redirected to another servlet for
some reason that I have, the license byte array is retrieved from
session and set on response in doGet method together with contentType.

The whole thing works fine if I put in the header of encrypted file
direct url to drm servlet and it returns license in its response
immediatelly. When the license is redirected to other sevlet, it not
works - the license is printed on screen.

Http sniffer shows:
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2007 10:29:31 GMT
Transfer-Encoding: chunked
Content-Type: text/xml; charset=ISO-8859-1
X-Powered-By: Servlet/2.5 JSP/2.1

in both cases.. so what is wrong?

Re: How to make a big Pop-Up window in Windows Media Player

byte[] license = (byte[])
request.getSession().getAttribute("generatedLicens e");
response.setContentType("text/xml; charset=ISO-8859-1");//
application/x-drm-v2
response.getOutputStream().write(license);

//application/x-drm-v2 - the player doesn't recognize the file and
wants to save it on disk.
//text/xml; charset=ISO-8859-1 - the license is printed on screen

I want to do something like silent mode (direct response to wmp) but
with some elements of none silent mode - login etc.. (but in the end
again direct response to wmp)

RE: How to make a big Pop-Up window in Windows Media Player

For those of us not as computer-smart and experienced, can you explain if
this needs to be done for each url or is there a way to do it in a set-up
location that will work for all?

Re: How to make a big Pop-Up window in Windows Media Player

I believe the parameters in question are DlgX and DlgY. See
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb262848.aspx for details.
