Have to change server address to sync.
I have a Palm 700w and Activesync 4.5 - that will only sync if the server
address is NOT fully qualified, ie servername. No domainname.com Then once it does, if I take the phone off Activesync it will not sync in the air. It changes its server address to just servername. Then to get the phone to sync in the air, I have to change the servername in the phone to server.domainname.com. Why is this happening? I have no other phones that behave this way. Thanks! |

Re: Have to change server address to sync.
Hi,
Does your internal DNS resolve the name of the external server to the correct IP? Ideally it should and you should be able to sync with the external address. -- Chris De Herrera Windows Mobile Device Center FAQs - ActiveSync Troubleshooting Guide - "Purtech" <mikek(remove)@hlit.net> wrote in message news:.gbl... >I have a Palm 700w and Activesync 4.5 - that will only sync if the server >address is NOT fully qualified, ie servername. Re: Have to change server address to sync.
Chris:
Activesnyc WORKS by resolving to "server." Ping brings: server.domainname.local. Then gives an Internal address. It fails if server.domainname.com. If phone set as "server" it fails, off the wire. But works server.domainname.com. off the wire. If I ping server.domainname.com it does come back with a public address - my routers address as it should. It does this on the computer in question. ....Your question below...did I answer it above? I even checked the HOSTS file for anything weird. Nothing. What else can I do? Thanks "Chris De Herrera" <> wrote in message news:.gbl... > Hi, > Does your internal DNS resolve the name of the external server to the > correct IP? Re: Have to change server address to sync.
One interesting message the user is getting on his phone:
Automatic Synchronization Suspended. Automatic Synchronization to your device has been suspended. Please switch to your Wireless Sync Client and select Sync. Synchronization will resume once you enter your username and password. However, his phone works anyway. He doesn't have to put his password. Just wondering if this has anything to do with it. Re: Have to change server address to sync.
Hi,
I'd see if you can get domainname.com to work even internally. This way the name resolution won't be causing the problem. By default there is only ONE name for the Exchange server and it's the full DNS name. -- Chris De Herrera Windows Mobile Device Center FAQs - ActiveSync Troubleshooting Guide - "Purtech" <mikek(remove)@hlit.net> wrote in message news:uZt$.gbl... > Chris: > > Activesnyc WORKS by resolving to "server." Re: Have to change server address to sync.
Chris:
I guess I don't get it. server.domainname.com resolves to the public ip address of my router. That is how it is registered and how my external clients find it. server.domainname.local resolves to the internal private ip. So there are two full dns names. What difference does it make because both go to the same server? And my exchange (outlook) clients work fine the way it is, internally and externally. ?
