Migration of a domain controller to child domain controller
Hi All,
I have a domain (domain A) with one pair of redundant domain controllers and several number of PCs, organization units, users etc. This domain is a standalone something, there is no difficult tree structure. There is an other network (domain B) with root domain controller and a certain number of child domain controllers. Unfortunatelly I have to put the previously mentioned domain (A) to this structure. I dont want to loose any information related to the old structure, but the domain controllers of domain A shall become child domain controllers of domain B. Is it possible to do this? If so where can I found documents specifically for this type of migration? Thanks in advance! Regards Vik |

RE: Migration of a domain controller to child domain controller
It is not possible to join forests or move domains intact from one forest to another. To do this you will have to migrate the individual users, groups, computers into a domain in Forest B from Domain A. Once the migration is complete you can then demote your DC's in Domain A and collapse the domain. These servers can then be promoted as DC's in one of the domains in Forest B or used to create a new domain in the forest. For the migration search for information on Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT). Re: Migration of a domain controller to child domain controller
Hi
As jwd said you can't merge one forest into another, the best you can do s to migrate all objects from one doman to another, you'll have to rebuild/recreate the OU structure -- I hope that the information above helps you. Have a Nice day.
