HELPP, Please! Server burped & lost its IP address!

Hello & HELP!!

During a regular day of work, all of a sudden all our W2K Pro Cllients
weren't able to access our W2K Advanced Server. Analysis showed the
Switch was on, Integrated (AD) DNS and DHCP were up & running, but no
packets were being received. I finally found that the Server's IP
flipped from 10.10.1.1. and DNS from 127.0.0.1 to both being
'unassigned'.

I changed the Server's IP back to 10.10.1.1 and tried to change DNS to
127.0.0.1 but of course it errored saying I can't assign a loopback IP
to it. So I'm now using 10.10.1.1 (since it's AD Integrated) but the
clients still can't access the Server, and status shows no packets
being delivered. Also, all entries in DHCP have disappeared! I've
checked cables, performed cold boots, switched the Server's data cable
end into a different socket in Switch, restarted DHCP, reinstalled
Server's NIC drivers. Nada!

HELP, PLEASE. The users are begging me to get it back online, but I
don't want to depromote and rebuild the domain (and possibly rejoin
each workstation to the server!).

ADthanksVANCE (Thanks in Advance)

Hi,

Is your switch working ok? if you force a static on to one of your
clients can you ping the server's ip? -It wouldn't explain your dhcp
leases disappering.

Do your clients still have their dhcp assigned addresses or have they
changed to something else?

Any events logged for dhcp in event viewer?
