VMWare Servers virtual ip's being registered in DNS
Hi,
I have VMWare Server installed on an Windows 2003 Std additional DC. After a reboot of the primary DC the virtual IP addresses of VMWare's Virtual Network Devices have started to appear in the DNS server, and breaking connectivity The additional DC is on subnet 192.168.10.0, but the virtual network devices IP's are 192.168.219.1 and 192.168.5.1. On the additional DC when pinging the server name the correct IP is pinged of 192.168.10.2, but on the primary the IP of one of the virtual network interfaces is pinged which is not contactable outside the system. If I delete the Host (A) records after about 20 minutes they re-appear. I have also gone into the virtual network interface properties "IP Addresses" -> "Advanced" -> "DNS" and un ticked the "Register this connection's addresses in DNS". After a few hours (getting back to work) again the IP's have appeared in the DNS server. This does not happen for any other VMWare Server install on the network. Is there any way to stop these records appearing in the DNS server, as once the records appear, AD cannot synchronize. Thanks for your time. PaulG. Advertisement |

Checking the properties in the DNS MMC for your server, in the interfaces tab you can specifically set the IP address the server will listen on for DNS requests. Removed the virtual IP's and left the physical ones.
