DNS 5509 error

Hi,

I'm getting a high volume of DNS 5509 error messages in my Event Log. They
are coming from my DHCP server (I asume that this is because it is trying to
update records for clients).

We do have some Windows 98 machines in the business, but they do not use any
special characters in their name, as stated in a Microsoft Support document
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/288176)

I cannot make sense of the error data to find out what machines this errored
packet is coming from or even what the bad packet contains.

Any ideas would be much appreciated

Thanks

Re: DNS 5509 error

Hello MatriX,

What's about the second option stated in the article?

Configure DNS so that it allows all names:
1. Start the DNS snap-in on the server.
2. Right-click the server and click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced tab, and then enter All Names in the Name Checking
box.

Best regards
