GP Functionality???
I want to set up a new group in a new OU and have the OU map to a certain
drive (the mapping is done thru the script process). Then, I want to add this new group to user's "members of" and have the new mapped drive appear for the user. Also, the user is part of another group/ou. Is this doable? If so, how? |

As of my understanding of you issue, you are trying to put a security group (with a user as a member) into an OU and want to link a policy with a script to it? That won't work. Group Policy does not apply to groups. You need to have the user account in that group. Try to restructure your OU-design so that you don't need to use an extra group to have multiple policies applied to one user. cheers, Florian -- Microsoft MVP - Windows Server - Group Policy. eMail: prename [at] frickelsoft [dot] net. blog: http://www.frickelsoft.net/blog. |

Re: GP Functionality???
I think what you WANT to do is create a logon script that will map
drives (and printers, etc) based on group membership. Create a policy that is attached to an OU for this user. Then, create a script that checks the user's group membership (if/then/else) to assign mappings. It's not that hard to do. I have some samples we did for mapping printers based on department memberships as well as drive mappings. There's a ton of info on this on the web, too. Just google "VBScript group membership" and you'll find a bunch of great examples. In your search, keep in mind that this is NOT a difficult task so be wary of long winded scripts. You can do this in a few statements (our smaller ones are something like 30 lines or less.) I've seen some of these that are crazy long (pages of VBscript code.) Re: GP Functionality???
Yeah you will need to do some scripting.
Check out Microsoft's scripting page: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scr...r/default.mspx As well as Richard Mueller's script site http://www.rlmueller.net/ -- Paul Bergson MVP - Directory Services MCT, MCSE, MCSA, Security+, BS CSci 2003, 2000 (Early Achiever), NT http://www.pbbergs.com Please no e-mails, any questions should be posted in the NewsGroup This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
