Re: In VISTA-Control Panel, MS Update, & others won't open.
Hello Michael and Dean-Dean,
REPORT: 1) All*.cpl files are Microsoft, no 3rd party. 2) I launched SLS thru Services and it was started, I stopped then started again. 3) SLUI-It was stopped, so I started it. Sadly, nothing has changed. However, a part of this that I have not shared is that my security shield in bottom right-hand corner has been red the entire time this problem started. Coincidence? Re: In VISTA-Control Panel, MS Update, & others won't open.
I came up here because I looked exactly for a solution for the error you described here. I did more investigation and found a MS patch. My son had this error exactly as described here: 'Icons are missing from Control Panel, or you cannot start Control Panel, the Welcome Center, or games in Windows Vista' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936686/en-us) follow the link to the resolution in the KB article: 'Error message during Windows Vista startup if the Nero InCD program is installed and if the \"Special pool\" feature is enabled in the Driver Verifier utility: \"Stop 00000050\"' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929637/en-us) Microsoft is offering a Patch which is only available thru support or Premier site. Since I have a premier account I was able to download the patch and solve the problem! ![]() kind regards turti |

Re: In VISTA-Control Panel, MS Update, & others won't open.
But it's not an error message during start-up.
Just one day I needed to get into my control panel and nothing. Flashes on screen briefly then dissappears. Can't access it. I still need help please. I can't open Control Panel either - I went to the Article 936686 but it sez
if not urgent to wait until Service Pak comes out - does anyone know when that will be? I don't want to mess up something if they will solve it soon. Re: In VISTA-Control Panel, MS Update, & others won't open.
I keep getting replies about going to support.microsoft.com/kb/929637
BUT this is for a nero inCD (whatever that is) problem. Here's what it says. (Error message during Windows Vista startup if the Nero InCD program is installed and if the "Special pool" feature is enabled in the Driver Verifier utility: "Stop 00000050") This is not my problem. I don't get an ERROR message. I just CANT access Control Panel. Someone please HELP! 929637 "nancyann" wrote: > I can't open Control Panel either - I went to the Article 936686 but it sez > if not urgent to wait until Service Pak comes out - does anyone know when > that will be? Re: In VISTA-Control Panel, MS Update, & others won't open.
I have the same problem on Vista Ultima 64-bit. Restarting the "Software Licensing" service fixes it... until I reboot. The first time I noticed it was immediately after adding RAM (from 2 Gig to 4 Gig) . I'm going to try removing the extra RAM and see if it fixes the issue. Other Info: ASUS P5N32-E SLI motherboard. BIOS = 1205 |

O.K. I found my own solution, (not a fix)
Go to: Windows Vista General Discussion, type in "solution control panel" I just posted a solution not a fix. BarbLynne "BarbLynne" wrote: > I have VISTA HOME EDITION. RE: In VISTA-Control Panel, MS Update, & others won't open.
Hi. I'm having a very similar problem. I cannot access the Control Panel,
Windows Explorer and other Windows applications, although I don't have problem with application not related directly to the OS (like Internet Explorer, Mail or third party's). MS Support only gave me the solution of installing all Vista again... very handy... I can't believe that such a widespread problem doesn't have more appropriate answer from the company. I installed the Service Pack 1 but it didn't work. I tried to find the solution you posted but I couldn't. Do you mind post it here, please? "BarbLynne" wrote: > O.K.
