Complete PC Backup
I am running Vista Ultimate.
When I try to do a complete PC Backup, Windows gives me the following message: "The backup application could not start due to an internal error: Server execution failed (0x80080005) Please check your system configuration and try again." I would appreciaate any advice anyone can give me regarding this configuration problem. --L. Pollane |

Re: Complete PC Backup
What type of drive are you backing up to, internal or external? Are you
backing up a laptop system? Make sure that the AC adapter is plugged before starting the Complete Backup wizard. -- Andre Blog: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com My Vista Quickstart Guide: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com/blog...3DB!9709.entry "Larry Pollane" <lp34@tampabay.rr.com> wrote in message news:uJPilSQFIHA.4296@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... >I am running Vista Ultimate. > > When I try to do a complete PC Backup, Windows gives me the following > message: > > "The backup application could not start due to an internal error: > > Server execution failed (0x80080005) > > Please check your system configuration and try again." > > I would appreciaate any advice anyone can give me regarding this > configuration problem. > > --L. Re: Complete PC Backup
I'm currently running Vista Home Premium and an Ultimate upgrade is on it's way. I too am having the same problem with my system backups but there is one major difference: I do not use McAfee, I use the new Vista compatible Zone Suites. My error message is slightly different but I have the same results, not being able to run a successful backup. I'm curious, could residual McAfee programs still reside on my PC that might be causing this problem? Or, could the problem be with firewalls in general? I've attached a copy of the error message I get when backup fails. Thank you for any help. +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Filename: BackupStatus&Config-didnotcompleteMar08.jpg | |Download: http://vista64.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=3081| +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ -- sandman3x |

Re: Complete PC Backup
It is quite likely that you, someone, some software or what know I have deleted something you shouldn't in your windows backup folder. I cleaned mine out because I needed the space for a new backup, only to have the complete pc backup fail on me. Couldn't start service. Luckily my backup drive was a secondary harddrive so I could remove it, boot and the complete backup service worked. If you use vssadmin in the command line you should be able to see where the system is trying to save your backup by typing vssadmin list shadowstorage. Perhaps someon more knowlegable in the ways of vssadmin or similar tools can tell us how to recreate a working storage without removing drives from the system. -- munk |

Re: Complete PC Backup
Thank you very much for your reply. After I received my Vista Ultimate upgrade and loaded it, the backups I tried continued to fail. It is my guess that because my backup drive is external, and one other drive to be backed-up is also external (plus 3 internal drives) that the problem may have been partially due to that configuration. I did try a backup to an internal drive but that also failed (after my attempts fail, I always delete those files created). So then I explored forum problems related to system backups (again) and discovered that more than one person responding to other’s problems mentioned using software Acronis True (11.0) backup software. I checked it out and liked the idea that it was a once only cost (no continuous membership fee). I downloaded a trial version and ran the backup to completion. I was sold! Nonetheless, I did enter the 'vssadmin list shadowstorage' command (admin) you recommended but the info I got back was a shadow copy vol same as the drive that was copied (i.e. <C:> vol id and Shadow Copy Storage <C:> with same vol id). I also entered the command 'wbadmin' (would never enter a 'delete' command unless I knew exactly what it would do) and I got back a help list of commands ('delete' not one of them). But 'start backup' was. That command is a good one to remember (information wise) because it listed commands to get info about a backup. Anyway, Acronis worked quite nicely, price is right at $50 for vers 11 and so I'm happy. Thank you again. -- sandman3x |

Re: Complete PC Backup
've had exactly this problem on Vista 32bit. I traced it back to Mcafee - the one and only time I used quickclean it corrupted my backups. Mcafee help (and the cirtual technician) were useless and very unhelpful. I would say a couple of folk at Microsoft were very helpful (thanks Christine and James). My solution was to disable mcafee through msconfig, reboot, run a full backup, then re-enable mcafee. This process cleared my fault (I presume through properly resetting all the restore points). Others I have talked to needed to uninstall mcafee for this to work. I have since used windows to clear restore points without problems. I'm also a NOD user now - with a big finger to mr unhelpful mcafee. -- jason-bartlett |
