Good Program on the Science Channel

it was on last night and will probably be repeated.
quite an eyeopener - it tells a great deal about MS's "innovation"
this episode deals with Gates & Ballmer and follows their efforts as they
buy out Q-DOS then pass it off to IBM as their own
LOL - afterwards they rip off Apple's GUI for Windows and begin their days
in court.
the title and description below tells is all...

Triumph of the Nerds
"Great Artist Steal"

A revolution was on the horizon to make PC friendlier. Those who rose to the
top knew - success in the market place doesn't have to come from innovation,
or from being the best, you have a ruthless ability to exploit your
opportunities.

"At Microsoft there are lots of brilliant ideas but the image is that they
all come from the top - I'm afraid that's not quite right." (read: we just
rip off everyone else)

The program is hardly news. They bought the ancestor of MS-DOS from a
company in Seattle for (alledgedly) $50000. Whether IBM knew what they
did or not is interesting. Personally, I thought that Gates and Allen
deserved
a lot of credit for outsmarting IBM. Not many people have.

As for the GUI, after all Apple merely adapted an idea from Xerox. It is
rather
murky as to the ancestry of MAC OS (at least it is to me).

Any corporation worth ten cents and owned/guided by anyone smarter than
the mail clerk will make sure (s)he hires people who are more
brilliant/resourceful in areas where (s)he is not the brightest bulb on the
tree. And any CEO/Owner who claims (s)he is the sole source of all brilliant
ideas will *never* be worth more than ten cents. The CEO will give credit in
the company where credit is due, (more or less) and that credit showed up in
MS by the dozens of brilliant "underlings" who retired multimillionaires, as
well as present highly paid employees who enjoy favored status in the company
commensurate with their individual contributions to corporate success. At
least; "that's mho" for "wiw". And, unless Bill Gates actually said the
(read: we just..."), note, the corporate attorneys may read that with much
glee. Of course, it's probably all just in fun anyway. ;-)

it you must really be a newbie!

nope sorry, every quote is true, each one verbatim - try google

but truth is a tricky concept for you apparently, having stated in this very
NG that that you possess multiple academic "Degree's" [sic], yet you can't
remember what they are or where you earned them - you've been a personal
houseguest of Bill Gates - and you've successfully run nearly all software
known to man on Vista without problems...

-I- make stuff up?
LOL
now -that's- funny
you couldn't pour water out of a boot if the instructions were on the
heel...

once again the point overshot your scalp.

LOL...you're just the kind of person to use google to verify your
pathetic life.
You proly use "brainyquote" for all of your unverifiable, out-of-context
quotes don't you. Then you go to wikipedia to check your definitions.
Your lucky to have a GED (if you even got that far).

> but truth is a tricky concept for you apparently, having stated in this very
> NG that that you possess multiple academic "Degree's" [sic],

never said I had..."multiple academic "Degree's"... did I. I alluded to
the possibility. Your reading comprehension got the best of you. You
don't know if I do or if I don't have multiple degrees and I certainly
don't have to answer to your sorry ass. But maybe I do have...how
many...let me count them...!

yet you can't
> remember what they are or where you earned them

That's just a stupid extension of the above assumption. Something you're
good at doing. Obviously, I know exactly what they are and where I got
them...all of them...and you don't know.

- you've been a personal
> houseguest of Bill Gates -

That was a "tongue-in-check" statement and it went right over your head.

and you've successfully run nearly all software
> known to man on Vista without problems...

I said..'just about ever software....I did not say.."known to man". You
said that, not me. You're a liar, a cheat and proly a thief.

> -I- make stuff up?

Constantly, and everyone knows you do. you can't hide.

hahaha...I'm not dumb enough to put water in a boot but you are since
you know the instructions are located in the heel.
Idiot!

Re: Good Program on the Science Channel

The way they got away stealing the Apple GUI design is by the simple
fact that a few other programs with OS built-in ran with windows or
pseudo-windows. Desqview as an example. Since Apple can't call the GUI
concept their own, MS was free to do anything they wanted (except, by
court order, they can't utilize a Trash Can...hence, born was a Recycle
bin).
