Microphone recording too low

I dont know what is wrong but whenever I record something with my microphone,
it records too low. When I play back the audio, it will sound like the volume
is turned down very low. I do know that the recording volume on the
microphone is turned up to 100 via the control panel, microphone properties
and levels. So thats the problem, even though the volume is turned up to max,
it still records much too low. All I am doing is recording simple voice
files. I am using windows vista 64 home premium, I never had this problem
with windows XP and if I use XP and record the same way, it will be much
louder in XP. Anyone know what is wrong here?

Hi tpmtek,

Did you adjust your settings in SOUND (Control panel) for the
Microphone to have the "Microphone Boost" set at least to 20db under the
Volume level?

I am having the same problem, the microphone volume is maxed and the boost is
at +20 dB. I still have to practically scream at the microphone to get the
configuration to regester out of the red. Tried 3 different microphones 2 of
which worked prior.

at +20 dB. I still have to practically scream at the microphone to get the

Hi Kenneth,

Well, you might check the simple things first.

1. See if you are plugging the the mic into the "Mic" jack and not a
"Line In" jack.
2. Check your "Sound" settings in the Control Panel (Classic View), and
make sure the under the "Recording" tab that you have the right mic set
as the default mic (EX: front/rear).
3. Check you mic's advanced or enhancements settings and make sure that
you have "Noise Suppression", "Acoustic Echo Cancellation", and "DC
Offset Cancellation" checked if you have these options.

Hi Kenneth,

Well, you might check the simple things first.

1. See if you are plugging the the mic into the "Mic" jack and not a
"Line In" jack.
2. Check your "Sound" settings in the Control Panel (Classic View), and
make sure the under the "Recording" tab that you have the right mic set
as the default mic (EX: front/rear).
3. Check you mic's advanced or enhancements settings and make sure that
you have "Noise Suppression", "Acoustic Echo Cancellation", and "DC
Offset Cancellation" checked if you have these options.

Ok Kenneth,

1. Open Control Panel and make sure you are in Classic view. (Upper
lefft corner)
2. Click on Sound icon.
3. Click on Recording tab.
4. Right click on the default (green checked) Microphone and click
Properties.
5. Click the Enhancements tab. If you have them, they will be here.
6. Also, click the Advanced tab and check to see if the quality is at
least set to "CD Quality".

Sometimes you will have a separate audio manager icon in the Control
Panel to. If you do, you might look in all of it's settings for
similiar items.
