computer won't restart!
running vista 32-bit home premium. the computer (which came with vista
pre-installed) works perfectly well but for one problem...every time i try to restart it, it gets hung and i need to munually power it off. it will power off ok, and i have absolutely no other problems with the OS. it is annoying, however, that i can't restart it when installing certain programs and updates and such, and need to shut it down and then reboot. searched multiple forums and found no other similar probs....anyone have any ideas how to fix this? thanks in advance! |

RE: computer won't restart!
I have the same problem however it seemed to start after vista automatically
updated itself after i did a clean install of the full version of vista home premium. Whenever i install an update (be it a windows or a norton update or any driver) and the computer needs to restart, windows seems to stall on start up and therefore fails to load ... after pressing the reset button the screen advises me that windows failed to load correctly and the options come up to start in safe mode etc .. ive tried all choices and all fail to load except safe mode (which isnt much help)..... anyway the solution i have found is to turn the computer off and actually turn off at the wall after it has shut down, rather than restart or even just turning it off (it only works if i turn it off at the wall). It seems that when i turn it of at the wall it seems to start fine the next time (everytime) ... im wondering if its a motherboard, chipset or bios setting that needs a tweak. all hardware is brand new so it should be in the settings i assume. i wonder if i am reseting something when i turn the power off. Chipset is AMD 64 Athlon X2 Motherboard is a ASUS M3A if anyone has advice or a link to a relevant post please let me know - danieljhartley@hotmail.com Thanks Dan |

Re: computer won't restart!
You can try to log off and back on - no need to restart.
Check for shutdowm issues in Event Viewer (Start/Search: Event Viewer) /Applications and Services Log\Microsoft\Windows\Diagnostics-Performance or %SystemRoot%\System32\Winevt\Logs\Microsoft-Windows-Diagnostics-Performance%4Operational.evtx Michael "Vinh" <Vinh@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:91B01DE6-6093-4358-AEE5-4AA326523C54@microsoft.com... > > I am having the same problem...
