Right click on the zip file, click Properties, click "Unblock" in the
General tab.

I have Vista Home and I am also getting ridiculously long decompress
times with zip files. I am currently unzipping a 2MB file downloaded
from PHPBB.com and it is taking about 30 minutes. When I was running XP
it would unzip a similar file in maybe 15-20 seconds.

I tried going into the zip properties, but there was no checkbox marked
"unblock".

Have you installed patch KB938979 yet?

I recall having similar problems, but after installation of this patch
those problems disappeared.

Hmmm... tried to install the update but got a message saying that it did
not apply to my system. I have Windows Updater turned on, so maybe my
system was already updated with that patch.

in the shell and does a great job.
Lightning fast and almost all archive types are supported.

On my computer the problem has gone away, presumably after updating
Vista. The problem occurred with ZIP files downloaded from a
newspaper site. If that is your problem, open the file propertiesd,
uncheck "protected" or something to that effect (in french version,
it reads "protégé"). Then unzipping should be fast.

When I right-click on a zip file there is no option that I can find
called "protected".

Also, I have 2gb of RAM, so I don't think that is the problem.

And I have all of the updates that my system tells me that I need.

I am at a loss here... 10 minutes to unzip a 2Mb file. Grrrr.....
