vista Premium to Vista home Basic

hi all. Just a couple of questions please if I may.

does Windows Vista Home Premium use more resources/memory than Vista Home
Basic edition?

If I wanted to downgrade a laptop with Vista Home Premium to Vista Home
Basic edition would that be easy do you reckon? - will I need an operating
CD?

The lappy has 1024mb RAM so would it be better/faster running home basic
rather than Home premium edition?

Difference between the versions are differences in the feature set,
rather than differences in memory use or speed. If you use the extra
features of a higher version, then there could be an impact on
performance. If you don't use the extra features, you should never
notice any difference at all. For that reason, downgrading makes no
sense.

Great, thanks for that info. So really what I should be looking for is to
cut down some of the features in home premium to make it run as fast as
possible. I know I could turn off defender and just manually scan for
spyware but what else could I turn off / disable in home premium OS to speed
up the PC at its fastest / best?

Any ideas?

No, that isn't really what I meant. My only point was that there's
really no performance difference between using Home Basic and using
Home Premium without any of its extra features. So there's reason to
consider downgrading a product you already have.

I wasn't necessarily suggesting that you cut down on using any
particular feature or features, but if that's what you want to do, as
an example, Home Basic doesn't come with Aero and Home Premium does.
Depending on how powerful your computer is, you might see a
significant impact in performance by turning off Aero. Whether you
*should* do that is up to you, based on your evaluation of the value
of Aero and your evaluation of how much better performance is without
it (try it and see).

Fastest isn't necessarily best. There are things (added security, for
example) that many of us would be willing to pay some performance
penalty for. The choice is yours, but I suspect that the biggest
difference would be Aero, as I hinted above.

Personally, I wouldn't turn off Defender. I would add additional
anti-spyware products, because no single one is good enough.

Aero is not only about the transparency. It is a whole new graphic rendering
technique. This graphic rendering technique will consume more resources than
before but is more stable for Windows. Here are the steps to turn off Aero
completely.

Open control panel from your start menu. Below Appearance and
Personalization, select Customize colors. Select "Open classic appearance
properties for more color options". Under color scheme, you select any scheme
other than Windows Aero to turn off Aero. You may have already know, select
Windows Aero will turn on Windows Aero.

go into msconfig, and untick windows defender in startup; it is a nuisance at
startup.
Also, you can turn off UAC, which speeds things up when TRYING to open things.
Use Avast antivirus, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Spyware Blaster.
Those 3 programs will keep your computer safer and FASTER than Microsoft
garbage. and they are compatible
Get the Avast free for home edition.

Just bought new laptop with preinstalled Vista Home Basic.
I didn't read the info very thoroughly and installed premium upgrade from an
enclosed disc.
When I did that, I found the code was accepted during activation. No wonder,
it belonged to VHB and not to VHP.
I do not intend to upgrade from VHB to VHP before I see the Basic version
and see, why I should upgrade.

So now I want to get rid of the bloody Premium upgrade and activate the
original Basic version.

As I got the laptop with Vista preinstalled, I haven't got the installation
CD, so I cannot install it clean.

Please, tell me how to get rid of the premium vithout killing the Basic
underneath!
