2.2 ghz amd only showing up as 1.0 under vista?

I have a amd athlon 64 processor 3500+ that's 2.2 ghz that ran fine when I
used XP Media Center. I upgraded to Vista when It came out and I've had
nothing but problems ever since, my latest problems is I am not able to play
some of my games that worked perfect under xp because they read my processor
at 1.0 ghz, but vista still reconizies it at 2.0 under my system properties.
This is the last straw for me with vista... My question is 2 fold. First, why
is this happening? and second is... I'm done with Vista.. but since I
upgraded from XP media center to Vista Home premium am I able to do this? I
have heard some people saying my xp licesense key is invalidated since I
installed vista... is this true? someone please tell me how to get Vista off
of my hard drive please.

Re: 2.2 ghz amd only showing up as 1.0 under vista?

Hi,

Why? Probably because the BIOS needs to be updated to report properly under
Vista. Likely as well the system manufacturer designed it around XP and the
hardware may not have been suitable for Vista. This is not uncommon, many
major OEM systems are not built with upgrading in mind and use proprietary
hardware that is not supported in retail upgrades to Vista.

As to your license for XP, if you did an upgrade then your XP license became
part of the upgrade license. It means you can't use that license for XP on
another system, it doesn't mean you can't go back to it on this system. To
do so will require formatting and starting from scratch using whatever
recovery media was provided to you by the system maker. There is no
uninstalling the upgrade.

RE: 2.2 ghz amd only showing up as 1.0 under vista?

I should also mention that my verision of XP media center was an OEM and I
would just pop the cd in and reinstall everything, but I'm worried about my
licesnse key for xp not working anymore.. and my upgrade to vista home
premium not working anymore if I buy a new pc with just vista basic

Re: 2.2 ghz amd only showing up as 1.0 under vista?

how would i upgrade the bios? I have a gateway gt4010 computer. Do you think
that trying to bios upgrade my solve some of my problems with some programs
running slow before I format the hard drive and start from scratch?

I went back to vista to have things running smoother and slowly upgrade my
system would I be able to retry vista on this computer? I guess the license
for vista will only work for this system now.

Re: 2.2 ghz amd only showing up as 1.0 under vista?

Just formatting and starting from scratch won't affect my system? About a
month after I upgraded I contacted microsoft tech support and they told they
wouldn't recomend doing that.

A BIOS upgrade should come from the system manufacturer or motherboard
maker. The former is preferrable as they may have made modifications to a
stock motherboard. Check with Gateway support as to availability. Would it
solve your problems? That is unknown, it probably can't make them any worse.

If you remove the retail upgrade to Vista from this system, then it is
reusable elsewhere. All it will require is phone activation as the license
was already activated (it will come back as being in use, so automated
activation will not work necessitating the phone call)

Re: 2.2 ghz amd only showing up as 1.0 under vista?

check the POWER play you are using.
set it to HIGH PERFORMANCE and see if it makes a difference.
if you are using Power Saver , it throttles the CPU down to save power.
