Start Menu Power Button - "ask me"

Is there any way to either get the Power button on the start menu to
either disappear altogether or ask me what I want to do? It is so big
and easy to accidently hit when you try to restart your computer.

This has been asked quite a few times already in here, but here it is
once more.

Control Panel/ Power Options - Look in the left window pane for
'Choose what the power buttons do' You will have an option to Shut
Down, Sleep or Do Nothing.

But no option to "Ask Me"

Why has Microsoft decided that users should no longer be able to
dynamically decide anything? Granted, general users will probably
never need to decide. But taking away options does nothing but make
life hard.

And speaking of taking away functionality - why is it that every time
microsoft improves their help, it becomes harder to actually find
anything useful?

If you want the "Ask Me" use the Classic Start menu option.
If you don't want to use the Classic start menu there are many
gadgets you can use to control power options or you can use a 3rd
party Start menu program.

As far as the help goes I'm sorry you find it difficult. I personally
find it very useful and easy to navigate.

It does help, to an extent. I appreciate the time and effort people
put into answering questions. Without community all hope is lost.

What is frustrating is having options taken away. What is even more
frustrating is knowing the only way to get the options back is to
decrease functionality or pay more money for third party solutions.

I understand your frustration things are not as they were in Windows
XP, but you have to realize Vista is not XP things are different
and there will be a learning curve.

As far as the power button issue, they really didn't take any
function away, If anything they gave us more options. If you have an
issue hitting the power button in the new Start menu that is really
just your issue I can't help you control your mouse....the ask me
option is right there next to the power and lock buttons. Just two
clicks away as it was in XP. (hover your cursor over the triangle
button and you can select from Switch user, Log Off, Lock, Restart,
Sleep or Shutdown) Could they have made the "Ask Me" button the same
size as the Power & Lock buttons? I guess so.........but who is to
say someone wouldn't complain it was to big if they would have?

You can't please everyone no matter how hard you try.

Gadgets are free if you just take the time and search for what you
need and there are 3rd party apps which are freeware.

I find the help system in Vista very easy to use and more extensive than
XP's.
