no video playback with quicktime 7
I have the latest i-tunes installed 7.2,which had quicktime 7 bundled with
it,now i have no video playback just a black screen in the qktime player (mov qktime files)but i have sound.I tried a complete format and re-install of vista 32 bit,and reinstalled quicktime 7 to see if there was any conflicts with previously installed software, but i still have a black screen in the quicktime player window, again with sound only.Curiously an earlier version of the standalone quicktime 7 worked ok albeit with vista aero disabled.I have tried converting the mov. files to avi. and this has the same result ie black video with sound,if i convert them to asf. files they work. This is not an ideal solution as i have many mov. files and converting all of them will take a lifetime.Has anyone else had this problem? or does anyone know how to fix it? any help is appreciated. -- LGW0039 |

Hi. Quicktime is great on an Apple but a bit too weird in Windows for my taste. Something to look at is whether your files will play in iTunes rather than Quicktime. It is the same software but QT looks like it has been fronted by the iTunes interface (go figure!). Browse to the folder, right click and see what the default prog is (QT or iTunes) and then try to open it in the other one. In iTunes you need to double click the window in the lower left hand panel to get sizing options etc. |

Re: no video playback with quicktime 7
Listen,
I am having the same problem. I shot some HD footage using a JVC HD200 and recorded them straight to a hard drive on location. When I bring the hard drive back home to upload the footage, I cannot view the picture from my computer, only sound. I tried bringing them to a computer on campus and they played fine. When playing on my computer, I continually get a prompt letting me know that I need to download an additional codec to view the files. Here is the problem, with QT's latest 7 release, they seemed to have removed some codecs so that we have to download them from external sites, which are charging money. Most of those sites do not have what we are looking for anyhow. I wish the prompt would just tell me what I need so that it was a little more focused when choosing from a list of 10 or 12 downloads which are all at least $50 + to purchase. Here is my solution, if you don't have FCP, then you don't have the codec nor can you get it. Good luck, cause its causing me alot of stress. |
