Re: Windows Error during Complete PC Backup
I am using Windows Vista Ultimate and trying to backup to a USB hard Drive. I have more or less the same problem as others have described in this thread. 1 if i try to backup I get the error message as follows: QUOTE The backup Application could not start due to an internal error The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057) Please check your system configuration and try again UNQUOTE If I try to "Change Backup Settings" I get exactly the same error message. Originally I was able to backup using the Automatic File backup - I haven't been able to for about a month. I have reformatted the external drive in case there wasn't enough space on it. Still getting the same errors though! I would be very grateful for any advice Many thanks Richard -- Richardxxx Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

Re: Windows Error during Complete PC Backup
Vista will only back up to a hard drive or CD.

Strange when Microsoft say you cannot do so.

Re: Windows Error during Complete PC Backup
Where does Microsoft say this?
I and many others backup/image to USB hard drives (and DVDs) with no problems whatsoever. -- I Bleed Blue and Gold GO BEARS! Re: Windows Error during Complete PC Backup
I have vista and its help says you cannot and when you try to read any drive
it will only show your RW drive. So unless you use another program explain to me exactly how you do it please. -- Ian "Cal Bear '66" <xxx@xxx.org> wrote in message news:BFD4572C-5DBC-433A-982F-8C97D26B978B@microsoft.com... > Where does Microsoft say this? > > I and many others backup/image to USB hard drives (and DVDs) with no > problems whatsoever. > > -- > I Bleed Blue and Gold > GO BEARS! > > > "Ian Betts" <igb123@talktalk.net> wrote in message > news:14072D9F-90AE-401C-9196-12FC92606175@microsoft.com... >> Strange when Microsoft say you cannot do so. >> >> -- >> Ian >> >> "Richardxxx" <Richardxxx.2tvvfk@no-mx.forums.vistaheads.com> wrote in >> message news:Richardxxx.2tvvfk@no-mx.forums.vistaheads.com... >>> >>> Thank you Ian - but until a 6 weeks ago Vista was happily backing up to >>> the USB Hard Drive - now I get the errors as indicated and I can't even >>> change the parameters - I get the error message as indicated in my >>> post. >>> >>> Any and all help gratefully received >>> >>> Richard >>> >>> >>> -- >>> Richardxxx >>> Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com >>> >>> > > > |

Re: Windows Error during Complete PC Backup
Thanks Ian - I can assure you it was doing it! You're not confusing a USB hard drive with a USB Memory stick are you? Anyway I still need to sort this problem out - And regardless as to whether or not it will back up to a hard drive or not - pl;ease remember that I get the error message when I try to change the parameters - long before I get into backing up to any sort of hard drive. If I could sort that part out we could then argue happily for some time about whether or not we can back up to a USB hard drive or not! Re: Windows Error during Complete PC Backup
From Vista's Help and Support:
"External hard disks. If your computer has a USB port, you can attach an external hard disk to it and then back up files to the external disk. Be sure to buy an external hard disk that has plenty of space for your backups (200 GB is a good choice). For maximum protection, keep your external hard disk in a fireproof location separate from the computer." Search Help and Support for "Backup". -- I Bleed Blue and Gold GO BEARS! Re: Windows Error during Complete PC Backup
Well I'm glad (and I hope) that's settled!
