APPCRASH
New computer, Windows Vista, Windows Explorer has stopped working, seemingly
only in one file (downloads). Problem event name: APPCRASH Application name: explorer.exe Version: 6.0.6000.16386 Timestamp: 4549b091 Fault module name: MP4 splitter.dll Version: 1.0.0.2 Exception code: c0000005 Exception offset: 0000c068 OS version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3 HELP!!!! Can this be fixed by reformatting my laptop with the included restoration discs? Or is there a fix out there somewhere? I've already tried system restore several times, to no avail. Thanks. |

Hi Terry The error indicates that the crash is caused by a memory access violation (error 0xC0000005) in a DLL called "MP4 Splitter.dll". Access Violations are usually caused by programming errors (bugs). This DLL is not part of Windows, itself - it must belong to some other program or add-on which has been installed on the system. The crash is in Explorer.exe, so I'd guess that MP4 Splitter is some kind of shell extension (add-on plugin) for playing MP4 files. Search your drive for this file. When you find it, right-click the file and select Properties. Then look under the "Details" tab. This will show you what company manufactured the DLL file; which in turn, should give you an idea of which application it belongs to. Once you have determined who the file belongs to, you can hopefully uninstall that application via Control Panel, Programs. Once the MP4 Splitter.dll is not being loaded into the Explorer process, this crash will not happen any more. Hope this helps, -- Andrew McLaren amclar (at) optusnet dot com dot au |

Hi Terry,
When does this happen? And yes, using the restoration disks will likely resolve it, but do you overhaul an engine when all you need is an oil change? The problem is in the module, we just need to figure out why it is loading with explorer. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Terry" <Terry@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:10ECB67E-92C2-4168-843B-50CD417789A5@microsoft.com... > New computer, Windows Vista, Windows Explorer has stopped working, > seemingly > only in one file (downloads). > > Problem event name: APPCRASH > Application name: explorer.exe > Version: 6.0.6000.16386 > Timestamp: 4549b091 > Fault module name: MP4 splitter.dll > Version: 1.0.0.2 > Exception code: c0000005 > Exception offset: 0000c068 > OS version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3 > > HELP!!!! Re: APPCRASH
Rick,
This was an MP4 file that I was downloading, and the download was interrupted. When I resumed and finished the download the problem seems to have been resolved. Does that make sense? Re: APPCRASH
Hi,
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ19VN laptop running Windows Vista Business. I hope one of you can help me out because I have a very annoying problem, and although I have been looking around the web and have noticed that other people (mostly Vaio-owners) have similar problems, I cannot resolve my problem. Moreover, I have some install once - software installed on my machine, so I don't want to start over from scratch and go for a clean install. Is there a smaller fix I can do that will get my laptop going again with widows explorer? Apparently the fault module name is different from the other users on the forum: StackHash_b21b What is that???? Windows Explorer keeps on crashing. Briefly stated, this is what happens (I translated the messages from Dutch, so they might not be exact): - I get a message stating "Windows explorer stopped working" - a message "windows explorer will restart" (but it doesn't) - I get a message that a problem has been identified and that a solution is available - when I click on OK, it states that the solution isn't available in Dutch, but it is in English - when I click on "English", I get a message that the solution is unavailable, and I get 3 possibilities a) no internet connection (although this one works) b) unavailability of the microsoft server (but then it has been unavailable for +- 10 days now) c) try again later Conclusion: I don't know the solution This is the errorlog: Product Windows Verkenner Probleem Werkt niet meer Datum 29/10/2007 23:51 Status Er is een oplossing beschikbaar.
