Officejet 6110 update won't install in Vista
I am running Vista 32-bit. I have an HP Officejet 6110xi. When I run
Windows update, there is an update for Officejet 6100. However, this update never installs properly. Is there another way to download this update and try to install it manually or a way to get Windows Update to properly install this update? Thanks. |

Re: Officejet 6110 update won't install in Vista
1.Vista (32 bit) is only partly compatible with the Officejet 6110. You can print and scan, but can’t use the HP Director software or the “scan to” button on the printer. For example, you can’t use Director or “scan to” button to scan a file into Microsoft word. However, individual applications that have an option for “acquiring” an image will recognize the Officejet 6110 in Vista. Note the following:
a.HP has apparently not updated the Officejet 6110 driver for Vista, but there is a Microsoft driver built into Vista. It should load automatically when you connect the 6110, but this will only enable printing. I could not get it to scan. b.By installing the HP Officejet and PSC Full Feature Software and Driver (aka: rw2_021_w02_enu.exe) (see: HP Officejet and PSC Full Feature Software and Driver* ) , you can both scan and print. You just can’t use Director software of the “scan to” button on the printer. c.My installation of this Full Feature software resulted in 3 brief repetitions of “windows installer” each time I rebooted windows. Good news is you can also halt the repetitions of “windows installer.” To do this in Vista, click Start/Run Type “msconfig” click OK click “startup” then uncheck “Hewlett-Packard hpotdd01” fyi, the command name for this non-essential file is “hpotdd01.exe” Then close msconfig and restart the computer. d.Note that HP has released a package named “AIO_CDB_Full_Network_enu” which supposedly fixes compatibility issues with some Officejet models and Vista. This is not compatible with the Officejet 6110. One more note: I discovered the above solution after many hours of trial-and-error with the HP scrubber and Windows Install Cleanup utilities. (Neither of these helped with the setup of the Officejet 6110 in Vista!) In the process, however, I learned about Acronis True Image software. Acronis is primarily a file/system backup utility, but is has a feature called “Try&Decide” which allows you to make all sorts of changes to your system, then go back to an established set point… just in case it doesn’t work out. This is similar to the windows “Restore Point”, but much more comprehensive and predictable. I’d strongly recommend installing Acronis (or some utility with similar features) and launching the “try&decide” mode before experimenting with these flaky drivers from HP, or experimenting with the HP Scrubber or Windows Install Cleanup utilities. Hope this is helpful. Greg. |
