Upgrade Vista Home Prem to Vista Business
My machine has Windows Home Premium. I have already installed all of my apps
and other preferences. I now want to upgrade to Vista Business so that I can connect to my domain server. If I upgrade to Business, will I have to reinstall of my software apps and documents/files? Or, does the upgrade simply upgrade the OS with everything else staying the same? TSA |

RE: Upgrade Vista Home Prem to Vista Business
Hi tsabboud,
As far as I am aware, the only supported upgrade path from Home Premium is to Ultimate. The Ultimate version contains everything in the Home versions and the Business version, so you will not lose any functionality you have now and you will gain all the functions from Business. You can either choose to upgrade using the 'Windows Anytime Upgrade' option or you can purchase an upgrade version of Ultimate. You should not have to reinstall anything, and all files should stay where they are. However, whether they are important files or not, back them up first to removeable media and check to see if they have been backed up correctly. Applications can be reinstalled from the original media that they came on. You shouldn't need to do this, but it is better to be safe than sorry, especially when carrying out an upgrade to your operating system. Note that when upgrading or installing an operating system it is best to disconnect from the Internet and only reconnect when you have finished. You might also need to disable your anti-virus software to carry out the upgrade, hence my advice above. Dwarf "tsabboud" wrote: > My machine has Windows Home Premium. Dwarf is correct.
There is no upgrade path from home Premium to business; that way has to be a clean install. Take his advice. "tsabboud" wrote: > My machine has Windows Home Premium. Re: Upgrade Vista Home Prem to Vista Business
I don't think there's a way to upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Vista Business. I had purchased Vista Business Upgrade from eBay to put on a computer with Vista Home Premium. The Business software doesn't allow you to upgrade from Home Premium to Business. It does, however, allow a clean installation. The problem is in activation. The Product code is only for an upgrade, not a clean installation. It doesn't make any sense to me that you can install something as an clean installation, but cannot be activated. Microsoft told me that Vista Home Premium cannot be upgraded to Vista Business. Then Microsoft told me I would have to purchase Windows Upgrade Anytime. tsabboud;669872 Wrote: > My machine has Windows Home Premium.
