Configuring Updates over and over, etc

Recently our Vista Ultimate PC has started to download 30 updates over and
over, and installs them over and over. Any potential solutions to put a stop
to this unwelcome activity. I am running the first public SP1 beta on this
PC and want to get past this so that I can install the released version of
SP1.

First, you need to immediately uninstall the beta SP1, then install
the released version of SP1.

I have read that the SP1 beta must be uninstalled.
